Deontay Leshun Wilder, an American professional boxer born in 1985. since 2015, Wilder has held the title of WBC heavyweight and therefore the first American world heavyweight champion for a period of 9 years. Besides, before winning, that was the longest period in the history of boxing where there was no other American heavyweight champion.
While looking at his personal life, Deontay Wilder and his wife Jessica Scales have two sons and two daughters after they got married in 2009 and then divorced. He is currently expecting to have a child from his spouse Telli Swift. He attended Tuscaloosa Central High School and graduated in 2004 where he was dreaming of becoming a basketball or football player in his hometown. It was due to his daughter’s suffering from spina bifida and his grades that he was forced to attend Shelton State Community College where he focused on the boxing career.
He started his boxing career in 2005 after joining Skyy Boxing Gym and started training under Jay Deas. He was at the age of 20 years by that time. In 2007, Wilder won both US championships and National Golden Gloves after defeating Isiah Thomas who was a highly touted cadet and world champion.
During the 2008 Olympics, Wilder won a bronze medal in the category of the heavyweight division. It through the win that he was nicknamed “The Bronze Bomber.” In boxing, he is known for a formidable punching power after he finished one fight inside the distance. He has a knockout-to-win ratio that stands at 98 percent, where he has 19 knockouts for the first round and being able to stop any opponent he faces.
Despite Transnational Boxing Ranking Board ranking him as the world’s second active heavyweight, he has won twice Premier Boxing Champions in 2016 and 2017. Besides, he has also a good ranking from BoxRec and The Ring Magazine.
